Our story

Built by caregivers,
for caregivers

AltuWell was built from real life caregiving experiences and the belief that families managing chronic conditions deserve better tools to manage complex care.

When my husband survived a near fatal motorcycle accident, I became his caregiver overnight. The diagnoses that followed — Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) — turned our home into something I was suddenly responsible for tracking: medications, symptoms, appointments, test results, and an endless stream of notes and updates.

All of it lived everywhere at once — scattered across portals, notebooks, spreadsheets, group texts, and memory. I was raising two children and working full time, and the coordination alone could be as exhausting as the care itself.

After years of searching for something better, I decided to build it. My background in business affairs, compliance, operations, privacy, and marketing shapes how AltuWell approaches organization and trust — with privacy designed in from the start, not bolted on later.

That search led me to Jordan, AltuWell’s Co-founder & CTO, who is navigating his own recent CML diagnosis. Together we’re building AltuWell so families can spend less time chasing scattered information and repeating themselves, and more time on the care, visibility, and support that actually matter.

Why we exist

Caring for someone shouldn’t mean carrying the chaos alone.

Millions of families coordinate complex care with sticky notes, group texts, and memory. We believe the people doing that work deserve software built with the same care they give — private by default, simple enough for the whole family, and quietly there when it matters most.

The people behind AltuWell

Heidi Kuyper

Co-founder & CEO

AltuWell began with Heidi's own caregiving journey. When her husband survived a near-fatal motorcycle accident and was later diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and Eosinophilic Esophagitis, she became the hub for every medication, symptom, appointment, and test result — all while raising two children and working full time.

Her background in business affairs, compliance, operations, and privacy shapes how AltuWell treats trust and organization. After years of searching for a tool that didn't exist, she set out to build it herself.

Jordan Kanter

Co-founder & CTO

Jordan spent a decade building privacy-first health software before his CML diagnosis. He understood the technical side of protecting sensitive data — and felt firsthand how fragile day-to-day coordination really was.

When he and Heidi met, the mission was clear: build the tool they both wished had existed, and treat privacy as the foundation rather than an afterthought.

We’re not building this from the outside looking in. We’re building the thing we wished we had at 2 a.m., when one more reminder slipped through.

What we believe

The principles we build by

Privacy first

Health data is sacred. Encryption in transit and at rest, US-only storage, and never sold — ever.

Built with, not for

Every feature is shaped by caregivers, patients, and privacy professionals who use it daily.

Calm by design

The goal isn’t more notifications. It’s fewer worries and a little more peace of mind.
